Introduction of Adjustable Flat Gate Valve

The flat gate valve is a sliding valve whose closing part is a parallel gate. The closing member can be a single gate or a double gate with a distraction mechanism in between. The pressing force of the gate to the valve seat is controlled by the medium pressure acting on the floating gate or the floating valve seat. If it is a double gate plate gate valve, the expansion mechanism between the two gates can supplement this pressing force. The flat gate valve can be divided into manual flat gate valve, pneumatic flat gate valve and electric flat gate valve according to the driving mode. According to the use and occasion, it can be divided into diversion hold flat gate valve, non-diversion hole flat gate valve, oil field flat gate valve, pipeline flat gate valve, gas flat gate valve, etc.

How Does an Adjustable Flat Gate Valve work

The valve is an asymmetrical flat valve body structure. It combines the valve body and valve cover of the ordinary gate valve into one. And the sanitary valve body is designed into a flat square. This kind of design reduces the structural size of the valve body, saves the number of connecting bolts between the valve body and the valve cover, effectively reducing the weight of the valve.

The valve seat uses a stand-alone design, combining the valve seat and valve interface of the ordinary gate valves into one. For the same valve body, replacing different valve seats can simply change the type of interface of the valve. This effectively improves the commonality and maintainability of the valve body, while avoiding the problem in which deformation of the valve body under high pressure results in the poor sealing performance of the valve.

This series of products adopt the new floating seal structure, which is suitable for the opening, closing and adjusting devices of control media such as oil and natural gas with pressure less than 15.0MPa and temperature from -29 ℃ to 121 ℃. The product has a novel structural design and material selection. Appropriate, rigorous test, light operation, strong anti-corrosion, abrasion resistance and erosion resistance. It is an ideal new equipment in the petroleum industry.
● Adopting floating valve seat, two-way opening and closing, reliable sealing and flexible opening and closing.
● The gate is provided with guide strips for precise guidance, and the sealing surface is spray welded with carbide, which is resistant to erosion.
● The valve body has a high load-bearing capacity and the channel is straight-through. When fully opened, it is similar to the gate diversion hole and the straight pipe, and the flow resistance is very small. The valve stem adopts composite filler, multiple seals, making the seal reliable and low friction.
● When closing the valve, turn the handwheel clockwise to move the shutter down to the bottom. Due to the pressure of the medium, the inlet seal seat is pushed towards the direction of the shutter to form a larger seal specific pressure, thus forming the first seal. At the same time, the shutter is pressed against the sealing seat at the outlest end to become a double seal.
● Due to the double seal, the consumable parts can be replaced without affecting the work of the pipeline. This is an important feature that our products take priority over similar products at home and abroad.
● When the gate is open, turn the hand wheel counterclockwise, the gate moved up, and the diversion hole and channel hole intersect. With the rise of the gate, the through hole gradually increases, and when the limit position is reached, the diversion hole and the passage hole coincide, and they are fully opened at this time.

Common Problem of Adjustable Flat Gate Valve

Q: What is the difference between slab gate and expanding gate?

A: One of the biggest differences between an expanding gate valve and a non-expanding valve is that an expanding gate valve has reduced or even zero friction on seats while cycling. A non-expanding gate valve, such as a slab gate or a wedge gate, has friction on the sealing surfaces.

Q: Should gate valve be fully open?

A: Gate valves are one of the most common valves used as a main shut off valve. They are reliable and long-lasting. Gate valves have a twist-type handle and should only be used to fully open water supply or completely shut off water supply. Using these valves to regulate the flow of water can wear them out.

Q: What are the problems with gate valve?

A: The most common causes of gate valve failure are wear and the seat's and wedge's corrosion. The inner areas of a valve wear off over time, and corrosion can make the wedge stick in the open or closed position. When the handwheel is overused, the stem leading to the wedge breaks off and renders the valve useless.

Q: How much pressure can a gate valve handle?

A: The main purpose of gate valve is to shut off the flow of fluids in a system. The valve is designed to be in either a fully opened or fully closed position. It is suitable to apply in low pressure application and the pressure rating can be up to 150 PSI working pressure.

Q: Does a gate valve reduce pressure?

A: Gate valves are equipped with a wedge-shaped metal gate that can be lowered to halt water flow and raised to allow flow to continue. When the gate is fully drawn up into the valve, it retracts entirely, allowing the water to flow through without any reduction in pressure.

Q: What is the advantage of using a gate valve?

A: Gate valves have dual flow directions. They're not limited to one-way flow, nor are they subject to the flow directions of the medium. Therefore, gate valves are suitable for use in pipelines where the flow direction may change. Plus, they are easier to install than other more sophisticated types of valves.

Q: Why do gate valves fail?

A: Gate valves can become stuck in the open or closed position due to rust, debris, or lack of lubrication. When a valve is stuck, it cannot perform its intended function.

Q: Why does my gate valve spin but not open?

A: A gate valve has a stem, and if the stem turns and turns for you while not exerting any control over the water flow either way, there's a good chance that the stem is broken off at the gate or the threads on the stem have been stripped to the point that they no longer operate the way they're supposed to.

Q: What materials are used in gate valves?

A: Gate valves are typically constructed from cast iron, cast carbon steel, ductile iron, gunmetal, stainless steel, alloy steels, and forged steels. All-metal gate valves are used in ultra-high vacuum chambers to isolate regions of the chamber.

Q: What materials are used in gate valve seats?

A: The seats can also be metal-to-metal with Stellite or TCC coating. To facilitate assembly and on-line maintenance, the design usually includes "wings". Sizes range from 1/2" to 72" and materials can vary from carbon steel to nickel alloys.

Q: What is the most common used gate valve?

A: Solid wedges are the most common because of their simplicity and strength. They can be installed in any position, are suitable for almost all fluids, and are practical for turbulent flow. Flexible wedge gate valves are commonly used in steam systems.

Q: What are the three common types of gate valve designs?

A: There are three types of discs used in gate valves: Flexible wedges, split wedges, and solid wedges. Like the stem, each disc has a specific use case. Wedges allow the application of greater pressure, which is why the wedge shape is common. Solid wedges are the most common.

Q: When not to use a gate valve?

A: Because of this, gate valves may not be the best choice for applications that require frequent operation or fast cycle times. Gate valves are most commonly controlled by a manual handwheel, but electric and pneumatic actuation options are also available.

Q: What is the difference between a gate valve and a wedge gate valve?

A: A wedge valve has a lower flow rate than its gate valve counterpart due to the sealing wedge being held in place between two slanted seats. Standard gate valves are linear, quarter-turn devices that regulate liquid flow. When opened, they completely block off the fluid path.

Q: Which is better ball valve or gate valve?

A: Flow Capacity: A gate valve can provide larger flow capacity than a ball valve as they are typically offered in larger diameters. Opening and closing speed: A ball valve is better suited for applications that require faster opening and closing speed or during emergencies due to its quarter turn on/off operation.

Q: What are advantages of flat gate valve?

A: The flow resistance is small, and the flow resistance without shrinkage is similar to the flow resistance of a short tube. The flat gate valve with pilot hole is installed on the pipeline and can also be cleaned directly with a vacuum cleaner. Since the gate makes the two valve seat surfaces change, the flat gate valve can also be applied to the medium with suspended particles. The sealing surface of the flat gate valve is actually automatically positioned, and the sealing surface of the valve seat is not damaged by the thermal deformation of the valve body. In addition, thermal elongation of the valve stem does not overload the sealing surfaces, even if the valve is closed in a cold state. In addition, when the valve is closed, the flat gate valve without the pilot hole does not require high precision in the flapper closing position, so the opening and closing position can be controlled by the electric flat valve stroke.

Q: What are the 2 types of gate valves?

A: Gate valves can be divided into two main types: Parallel and wedge-shaped. The parallel gate valves use a flat gate between two parallel seats, and a popular type is the knife gate valve designed with a sharp edge on the bottom of the gate.

Q: What is a slab gate valve used for?

A: This type of valve is very useful in transportation pipe lines for gas, crude oil and oil products. The Slab Gate Valve is through conduit and piggable. Slab Gate Valve has been designed to minimize pressure drop and catch foreign materials such as slurries into the disc cavity to keep clean the sealing surface areas.

Q: What are the components of a gate valve?

A: A gate valve consists of a valve body, seat and disc, a spindle, gland, and a wheel for operating the valve. The seat and the gate together perform the function of shutting off the flow of fluid.

Q: Should you throttle a gate valve?

A: Gate valves are not intended for throttling. They are designed such that media flowing at high velocity can vibrate and quickly erode or tear a partially-open valve disc off its seat. In a pinch, gate valves should only be used for throttling when the gate is 90% closed.
